Where in Canada can I find a copy of the movie "Dune?"
Find out if and where you can watch Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi epic at home in Canada.
Warner Bros. released Dune: Part One, the first of a two-part adaptation of Frank Herbert's novel, which stars Timothée Chalamet, Josh Brolin, Zendaya, and Jason Momoa and is directed by acclaimed Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve. Theatrical releases in North America on October 22, 2021, for the following weekend
The film was initially released in Canada only in theaters. In the United States, the film was available for a limited time only via HBO Max beginning on October 22, but in Canada, this was not the case.
Nonetheless, Bell Media's Crave subscription streaming service started carrying Dune on March 18, 2022.
Prior to this, Canadians had the option of renting Dune online for a premium price of $24 USD at the start of December. You can rent it for .99 for 24 hours, or buy it outright for $29. ($0. 99) at the following merchants: As of early April 2022, you can only buy it online, and the price has dropped to $24 for the digital version. Rentals may become available again in the future for .99 (prices do not include tax and may vary by retailer):
Keep in mind that the Denis Villeneuve film is not to be confused with the 1984 David Lynch film, both of which can be found on Crave at the time of this writing.
Ads in the United States promised that Dune would air on HBO Max, so I was confused when I couldn't find anything like that in the UK.
In the U S In the past, Warner Bros. "Same Day Premieres" is a distribution model that will be used for movies coming out in late 2020 and early 2021, starting with Wonder Woman 1984 and including subsequent films like Godzilla vs. WB theatrical films like Kong and In the Heights have had day-and-date releases on HBO Max, a sister streaming service, and are then available to subscribers on that service for free streaming for 31 days after release. Time ran out on November 22nd.
This streaming release, however, did not apply in Canada because that country does not have access to HBO Max. To the best of our knowledge, Warner Bros. has not yet released HBO Max in any other regions of the world, including Latin America. did not make such a proposal
This is a topic we've covered in greater detail before, such as in our post about Wonder Woman 1984, but to recap: because HBO Max is owned by the same company as Warner Bros. , WarnerMedia can distribute these movies more freely within the United States. S , and this action has aided the company in achieving its long-term goal of expanding HBO Max
However, HBO Max is not available in Canada due to the fact that the country's most important programming rights have been sold to domestic services, primarily Bell Media's Crave, and WarnerMedia does not have the same direct financial incentive to growing Crave's subscription base.
However, Warner Bros. should be compensated under a "pay-1" output deal for Dune. Crave will get first-run movies a few months after they debut in theaters. Before the pandemic, Crave would usually get WB movies around 8-10 months after they had premiered in theaters. However, given that a number of Warner Bros. films, beginning with WW84 (which arrived on Crave in late May, about five months after release) have moved up their release dates, it is likely that this trend will continue. movie releases, so it was likely that this one would follow suit for streaming, which would put its Crave streaming debut sometime in late March 2022.
In fact, Crave stated on Twitter in February that it would begin selling the film in March, though it did not specify when exactly it would go on sale. As of this past Friday, March 18th, Dune could be streamed on Crave.

A Crave for What? — Crave (@CraveCanada) February 8, 2022With the launch of Crave in late October 2021, the service offered two pricing tiers, both of which granted subscribers access to the same video library. a month is a month. If you pay for it annually, it will cost you .99; if you have multiple screens, the "total" plan will set you back $19. Priced at /month or $199/year A yearly fee of Prices do not include any local, state, or federal taxes that may be required to be paid. )
Once a Crave release has been up for about a year, Warner Bros. Hollywood's movies now stream on Netflix's competition. Presuming this holds, the transfer is scheduled for the middle of 2023.
If other 2021 films were made available to Canadians for simultaneous home and theater viewing, why not Dune?
As is the case with the vast majority of Warner Bros. Despite the fact that many Canadian theaters would be closed for renovations in late 2020 and early 2021, the studio has decided to release these films in the country simultaneously in the theatres that will remain open and as premium video-on-demand (PVOD) rentals on a number of streaming services. However, after theaters across Canada, including major markets like Toronto, were given the green light to reopen in August, this policy was scrapped.
As an alternative, Warner Bros. Since The Suicide Squad, the studio's films have had less than two months of theatrical exclusivity, a much shorter period than was typical before the pandemic. For instance, on September 10, Malignant was released to theaters, and on October 22, just six weeks later, it will become available for digital purchase, albeit at the premium price point of $29. 99
The preceding discussion makes it clear that this method will be applied to future Warner Bros. cinematic works for the time being
