Learn how to browse and use Instagram filters on your iOS or Android mobile app. Instagram filters use augmented reality to add special effects to your Instagram stories and posts. You can easily find and apply a filter by following these steps:
1. Open the camera and swipe left on the icons at the bottom of the screen until you see the magnifying glass (Browse Effects).
2. To search for a filter, either tap one of the filters you see or tap the magnifying glass and type in a name or keyword.
3. Select a filter and preview it by tapping Try It or download it by tapping the down arrow. Once you download a filter, tap OK to save it.
4. Exit out of the filter selection, and swipe right on the icons at the bottom of the screen to find and use the new filter.
Instagram users also have the ability to create and upload their own filters for others to use. To download a filter from a specific creator, follow these steps:
1. Find the creator's profile and tap the smiley face above their grid.
2. Tap the filter you want, then tap Try It or download it by tapping the down arrow.
3. Snap a photo or record a video with the filter, and share it with your friends.
If you see a cool filter on your friend's Instagram that you want to try for yourself, go to the post with the filter you want, and tap the filter name at the bottom of the screen. You can then try it or save it by tapping the down arrow.
If you can't find filters on Instagram, close and restart the app. If that doesn't work, try updating or redownloading the app. To use face filters, tap the camera and then tap the smiley face. Choose a filter and start recording.
