Replacement Cost of Permanent Resident Card:

If you need to renew your Permanent Resident card, you'll need to pay $50. Make sure you are qualified to renew your PR card before paying the non-refundable application fee. The PR card itself has an expiration date, but the status of permanent resident itself does not. Avoid having your entire application package returned by ensuring that it is complete.

Details on how to send in your PR card renewal fee:

Each day, we fielded questions from applicants who were filing their own PR card renewal applications about how to pay the C$50 fee for the PR Card renewal. This fee is typically paid online from the client's login id when working with an immigration law firm or immigration consultant to renew a permanent resident card, but a regular citizen who wants to submit the application on his own can do so by searching for the phrase "Permanent Residence Documents Online Payment." To renew a PR card, applicants can use a search engine to find CIC's e-pay services, where they can choose the appropriate fee based on the number of applicants. To use this electronic payment service, a user must first register for an account, which can be done with an email address, or log in to an already existing account, if one has been set up in the past. After a successful transaction, a receipt is typically sent to the payer's email address, and paper copies can be obtained directly from their account.

Where do I go to get my new PR card?

You will receive your card in the mail if you are a permanent resident of Canada. You may be required to pick it up from a regional IRCC office, however. If your mailing address has recently changed, be sure to let IRCC know. You risk having your card destroyed if you don't claim it within 180 days. You won't get it mailed to you if you live outside of Canada; instead, you'll have to pick it up in person once you've arrived. However, if your PR card expires before you return to Canada, you'll need to apply for a permanent resident travel document. Please note that this is only good for a single re-entry into the country in order to renew your PR card.

The Situation If You Have Not Received Your Permanent Resident Card Yet

A minimum of six weeks is required before you can expect to receive your card in the mail. If you haven't received your PR card in the mail after six weeks, you can check in with IRCC about the status of your renewal application.

Please note that this time frame only applies to applications where the resident applicant has met the residency requirement for PR, and that processing time for applications where the resident applicant has not met the residency requirement may vary depending on the complexity of the application.

We can help you understand the PR Card Renewal Process and determine whether or not you are eligible to renew your PR card based on your PR residency status. For years, the Visa Canada Team has successfully processed even the most difficult immigration petitions.
