A Guide to Setting Up an Unlocked Device

If you have purchased a mobile phone outside of Canada or from a different carrier, you can still use it with Fido as long as it is "unlocked".

What You Need to Know

• Make sure your device is compatible with the Fido network, which operates on GSM, UMTS, HSPA, and HSPA frequencies at 850 MHz and 1900 MHz. For LTE network access, your phone must be compatible with:
• 700 MHz on Band 17
• 1700/2100 MHz on Band 4
• 2600 MHz on Band 7

• If you're unsure how to check the supported frequencies of your device, visit the manufacturer's official website and search for the specifications of your specific phone or smartphone model.
• If your device is locked, you'll need to get it unlocked by the carrier you bought it from originally.
• If your device is not compatible, check out our latest selection of phones and devices.
• To use your unlocked device, you'll need an active Fido SIM card.

If Your SIM Card Is Already Activated:

• Simply insert your SIM card into your mobile phone or smartphone.

If Your SIM Card Is Not Activated Yet:

• Activate your Fido service by choosing one of our plans:
• Online
• Over the phone (1-866-302-FIDO (3436))
• In a Fido store

To Purchase a SIM Card:

• Visit your nearest Fido store or buy it online.

How to configure an iPhone

• Insert your Fido SIM card and turn on your iPhone.
• Follow the on-screen wizard to complete the activation. Activation can be done over Wi-Fi (depending on your software version) or by connecting to your computer and using iTunes.
• After activation, your iPhone will be properly set up to use the Internet on the Fido network.

How to configure an Android device

Android is available on various devices, and different versions exist in the market. The names, information, or settings mentioned below may vary depending on your specific device. This guide covers as many devices and versions of the Android OS as possible, starting from Android version 2.0.

• Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names.
• On the APN screen, press the Options button on your device.
• Tap on New APN.
• Enter a name in the APN Name field.
• Insert the following APN settings:
• APN: Fido-core-appl1.apn
• If you have an LTE device, use the following setting: LTEMOBILE.APN

MMS (Picture & Video Messaging Settings):

The subsequent guidelines will help you properly configure the APN settings for your device:

1. MMSC: Access the following link to access the relevant platform: http://mms.fido.ca.

2. MMS Proxy: Utilize the IP address 205.151.11.13.

3. MMS Port: Set the port number to 80.

Remember to leave the Proxy, Port, User Name, Password, and Server fields empty. To save the APN settings, press the Options button on your device and tap on the Save option. Afterward, restart your phone and attempt to browse the Internet. It is essential to note that you will see the newly created APN on the APNs screen. To activate the APN, select the radio button situated in front of APN.

The necessary BlackBerry service books will be sent to your phone, ensuring automatic configuration of messaging and browser settings. If you are operating a system that predates OS5, configure your browser settings to utilize the WAP Browser. To achieve this, select any browser on the home screen, press the Menu button, choose Options, General Properties, and then Default Browser and WAP Browser. To confirm the OS version, go to Options and then About.

To configure other smartphones, consult the user guide provided by the phone manufacturer. You may require the subsequent information:

APN Settings:

- APN: Fido-core-appl1.apn

- For LTE devices, use the following setting: LTEMOBILE.APN
