In order to receive the Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit (CWLB), you must first apply for it through CRB Canada (CERB Canada).

For each qualifying worker in Canada, the Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit (CWLB) will pay $300 ($270 after taxes). 1-week  period

When your area is placed under a COVID-19 lockdown, you will have access to the CWLB.

Qualifications needed

For the following to apply to you, please ensure that you: 1-week duration of time sought

One of your primary places of abode is Canada, and you are either a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident with a home in Canada. ) You visited Canada, right? You must be at least 15 years of age. It's safe to assume that your SIN is legitimate.

  • Benefits from the Social Security Administration, either standard, supplemental, or fishing-related
  • sums derived from these COVID-19  benefits:
    • Those in need can apply for the Canada Emergency Benefit (CERB).
    • The Economic Recovery of Canada (ERCB)
    • Benefit to Caregivers of Canadians in Need of Care (CRCB)
    • Canadian Sickness and Recovery Benefit (CRSB).

  Considerations regarding the definition of "income"

  • Complete salary or self-employment pay, including:
    • tips
    • unqualified dividends
    • honorariums (small monetary rewards given to benefactors)
    • money owed to creators in the form of royalties

Things that are not considered money:

  • Disability Insurance
  • financial aid in the form of grants, loans, or scholarships
  • aid for the needy; monetary support for families
  • Whether from the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) or the Québec Pension Plan (QPP), or another pension plan,
  • Pensions from the Old Age Security program
  • The Canadian Emergency Support for Students (CESB)

You submitted a tax return for the year 2020.

Whether it's where you call home, your place of business, or the area where you provide a service, you're always operating within a COVID-19 area under lockdown

Assigned to a specific COVID-19 The implementation of lockdown in your area led to either of the following:

    • You were laid off and had to look for work.
    • You worked for yourself but were unable to keep going with it.
    • you either worked for someone else or were self-employed, but you 50% average weekly income that has decreased since last year

Except when it would have been prudent to do so, you refrained from doing the following:

  • leaving one's place of employment
  • cease working on your own accord
  • dismiss acceptable employment
  • to ignore your employer's requests to return to work
  • lose the opportunity to return to self-employment by not doing so

The alternatives to working from home are:

  • The CWLB disqualifies those who have the option to work remotely (telework).

That's the COVID-19 vaccine, or you can't keep working without it.

Even though you were abroad, you weren't quarantined or living in isolation.


  • If you were isolated due to:

    • you went somewhere for official medical care
    • You accompanied a person who required your assistance to travel to a medical provider for treatment approved by a physician.
    • You were able to avoid quarantine upon your return to Canada because of the nature of your work, but a lockdown order meant that you had to isolate yourself.

    Call the CRA at 1-800-959-8281 to apply if you fall into one of these categories and meet all other requirements.

If you are receiving the benefit for a period beginning in 2022, you must file your 2021 and 2022 tax returns by December 31, 2023. If you are receiving the benefit for a period beginning in 2021, you must file your 2021 tax return by December 31, 2022.

You will lose your right to this benefit if your application is not submitted by the deadlines. Payments already made to you must be returned. To qualify for the CWLB, you must satisfy all of the following conditions.

Please take into consideration that most people who are currently incarcerated, whether in prison or another institution, will not qualify under all of the eligibility criteria. Those who are on day parole or have the legal right to look for work may qualify.

Checking your qualifications

The CRA will check if you meet the requirements to get the CWLB. If we need more information from you to verify your application, we will ask for it.

It is possible that those who knowingly submit false claims will face additional consequences such as fines or even jail time.

You can use the CRA's Leads program to file a complaint about any suspected abuse.

If you need to verify your application

The CRA may request additional documentation from you in order to validate your application. Until the verification process is complete, we are unable to issue payment.

Possible Required Proofs of Identity Documents

In order to verify your application, we might need the following information from you. Documents you submit to the CRA may be checked for legitimacy.

  • Statements of Earnings from Recent Times

Steps to take when submitting proof of identity

Online Use the CRA's online submission system, My Account, to hand over your paperwork.
  • A CRA My Account login is required.
  • Click the button labeled "Submit documents" (located in the upper right corner).
  • Type in your reference or case number here.
  • Choose "Submit necessary documentation for COVID-19 "maintenance grants"
  • Provide a brief summary of your submission and any supporting materials you'd like to include.

Time for Validation

From the time we receive all of your supplementary information until the time the validation is complete can take up to 4 weeks.

It could take up to 8 weeks if your case is more complicated, your information is unclear, or necessary documents are missing.

During the CWLB application process, you may receive an error code. To fix the problem, do as instructed in the error message.

Your application may need further verification because some required details are missing or because we require more information to make a determination.

Applying and getting the error message "COV-053" is a major setback.

This error message may appear if you have not submitted your 2020 tax return. It's possible the CRA hasn't gotten your tax return yet if you sent it in on paper.

To apply for the CWLB, you must, among other things, have filed your taxes for 2020. If you want to apply for any CWLB periods in your designated COVID-19 lockdown region in 2020, you must first file your taxes for that year.
