I'm looking for a place in Canada to watch the 2022 Tour de France.

From Friday, July 1, to Sunday, July 24, 2022, the oldest and most prestigious of cycling's Grand Tours will take place.

FloBikes, a specialized service owned by the American sports-focused streaming company FloSports, announced in 2019 that it had acquired the Canadian rights (in English and French) for the four editions from 2020 to 2023.

FloBikes will also broadcast the first-ever Tour de France Femmes, a competition exclusively for women, in Canada. The dates for that celebration are July 24–31.

Due to FloSports' rights, the Tour de France will not air on regular Canadian TV channels this year. However, NBC will air coverage of select weekend stages. Keep reading for elaboration.

Cost of FloBikes in Canada.

It appears that FloBikes takes great pains to make you enter your email address and create a password before disclosing its subscription pricing. Among the many possible explanations for this is the use of dynamic pricing to offer various subscription packages to different customers.

In the fine print, we were told that the current annual subscription price is US$150 per year, charged exclusively in U.S. dollars, when we created an account on the FloBikes website in June 2021 from Canada and again when we logged in on the site in June 2022. S currency, which, at the rate of exchange in effect as of late June 2022, is roughly equivalent to $195 in Canadian currency. If you pay with a regular credit card in Canada, you will likely pay more in the end due to exchange rate fees.

The signup process highlights the fact that this amounts to $12 USD. fifty (approximately sixteen Canadian dollars) 25), however, you can't pay for just one month at a time because of the way they structure their billing. The US$150 annual subscription fee is instead due up front, with no promise of prorated refunds in the event of early cancellation.

Although all major foreign streaming services were mandated to start remitting sales tax for Canadian income received as of July 1, 2021, our testing did not reveal whether or not FloSports was charging sales tax on top of this.

Monthly subscriptions were apparently available in the past for US$29. There is no longer a single-event option for any of the FloSports events, and the monthly price has increased to (or more than double the net monthly rate when subscribing annually). However, it appears that most FloSports services offer access across multiple sports, so it's possible that a monthly subscription to one of FloSports' other services (which, as far as we know, all have the same prices) could be used to gain access to cycling coverage at no additional cost. Although we have not tested this out on our own,

I live in Canada and I was wondering why I can no longer tune in to regular television stations to watch the Tour de France.

As of 2019, at least some coverage of the Tour de France had been broadcast on Canadian linear TV channels for at least the previous thirty years.

Since the 1990s, when TSN broadcast tournament highlights, OLN Canada aired the tournament live for a number of years prior to 2010 (when it was still more closely tied to its U.S. S opposite, then the defunct NBC Sports Network (NBCSN), then TSN again from 2011 to 2013, and finally Sportsnet from 2014 to 2019

However, for the most recent contract, announced in June 2019, the event's organizer, the Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), partnered with a dedicated streaming service, FloSports.

The ASO's announcement framed the decision to grant FloSports exclusive rights in Canada as a calculated move motivated by a desire to provide the organization's events with "the best exposure possible." In light of this, the organization has decided to collaborate with "the most innovative and promising broadcasting platforms that are able to provide, in collaboration with us, storytelling that will resonate with all our audiences. "

Since financial details of the deal were not disclosed and there hasn't been much reporting on the matter, it is unclear if that is the only motivation. Potentially, FloSports's financial commitment was too large for other Canadian TV networks to match. It's also possible that TSN and Sportsnet had other programming and/or financial commitments during the most recent round of negotiations, and thus decided to offer only a token (intentionally low) bid, or not bid at all.

The Canadian streaming rights to other events like La Vuelta a Espaa (the Tour of Spain) and other UCI-sanctioned championships already made FloSports a major player in the cycling industry. Accordingly, a yearly subscription to FloBikes could be useful for cycling fans. Despite the custom labeling, it appears that subscribers to FloSports will have access to all of the service's offerings, which includes coverage of the ECHL hockey season, the U.S. S Games like college soccer, gymnastics, bowling, and more

But we aren't sure how many Tour de France aficionados will sign up for FloSports just to watch the race. However, the ASO should decide how they want the event's proceeds split.

Is there anywhere else in Canada that airs Tour de France coverage besides RDS?

While programs like SportsCentre and Sportsnet Central may air highlights, and various websites may post clips, Canadians will not have many legal options for watching the entire game online.

Canadian TV stations should air some of NBC Sports' (the rightsholder in the United States) coverage. This, however, would be restricted to whatever weekend coverage NBC broadcasts (with the availability of said coverage potentially depending on the preferences of the local NBC affiliate).

According to the 2022 Tour de France schedule released by NBC Sports, the network will air three days of coverage:

• Second Stage: Roskilde/Nyborg, Saturday, July 2, at 1:00 p. m TV Time (ET)
• Beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 23 in Lacapelle-Marival and Rocamadour is Stage 20 of the Tour de France. m ET (live)
• This Sunday, July 24, at 2:00 p.m., the race will reach its 21st and final stage at the Paris La Défense Arena and the Paris Champs-Élysées. m A.T. (equivalent tape delay)

With the exception of simultaneous substitution requirements, which would only apply if there was a Canadian broadcast network carrying the exact same coverage as NBC, Canadian TV service providers are not required to black out coverage on NBC because it is a free-to-air broadcast network.

Neither USA Network nor NBC's Peacock streaming service have been legally made available in Canada. S NBC's coverage of this year's Tour de France will move to the cable channel. Due to FloSports' exclusive rights in Canada, even if they were, as subscription and/or Internet-based services, they would not be allowed to transmit their Tour de France coverage in Canada.

A forum member or advertisement I saw claimed to have found another site that would allow me to watch the Tour de France. Do I have faith in it?

We're cognizant of the fact that some competing Canadian streaming or networking services promote themselves as portals into Canadian sports broadcasts. Nonetheless, as of this writing, only FloBikes is listed on the Tour de France's official website (under the "Official Broadcasters" tab) as being licensed to distribute coverage of the Tour in Canada.

Some alternative streaming sites may have shakier video quality, and they may shut down without warning or compensation. It is common practice for international streaming services to attempt to block access from outside their home country using VPNs, even if they have been granted permission to do so by the event's organizers in that country. Due to this, we are unable to endorse the use of such services, and any such engagement is done so at the user's own discretion and risk.
