Discover the Best Way to Watch "In the Heights" in Canada

Discover where to watch the latest adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda's beloved musical within the comfort of your own home in Canada. In the Heights, which features an impressive ensemble cast led by Anthony Ramos and Corey Hawkins, was launched in North American theatres on Thursday, June 10, 2021, by Warner Bros. Pictures. However, due to ongoing cinema closures throughout Canada amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Warner Bros. Canada has confirmed that the film is also available to rent as a premium video-on-demand rental, retailing for roughly $24.99 (plus tax) for a 48-hour rental beginning on June 10. Although accessible through various retailers who do not require a subscription, it is not being offered through subscription streaming services until several months after the film's release.

If you have access to a cable or equivalent TV service provider, the film should be easily accessible through most video-on-demand services on your set-top box for a comparable price.

Premium video-on-demand, or PVOD, is a relatively new home entertainment model that allows viewers to watch the latest releases from their homes around the same time as theatre releases. However, because it is priced per household instead of per seat as with traditional theatre releases, rental prices are set comparatively higher to begin with. In the U.S., In the Heights is included in Warner Bros.' "Same Day Premieres" distribution model, which grants day-and-date access to HBO Max subscribers after theatrical release. Yet, this release model does not apply to Canada, or many other parts of the world where HBO Max is unavailable.

Are you looking for other HBO Max original movies? Although several movies are available on Crave, including Zack Snyder's Justice League and Charm City Kings, no early access to films similar to those part of their "Same Day Premieres" distribution model has been granted.

It should be noted that the upcoming movie In the Heights, being a Warner Bros. release, falls under a "pay-1" output agreement that allows for the studio's first-run films to be made available on Crave (with Movies HBO) a few months after their theatrical releases. Typically, WB films show up on Crave roughly 8-10 months following their theatrical premieres. However, with WW84 being an exception, having been added to Crave just five months after its theatrical debut, the possibility of In the Heights following suit looms large. In fact, it could very well arrive on the streaming service as early as late October 2021, but it wouldn't be surprising if it happened a few months later.
