Discover How to Watch CBS' Replay of Meghan and Harry's Oprah Interview Tonight
The Oprah interview with American-born Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, and her husband, Prince Harry, created a significant impact and continues to make waves even days later. Meghan revealed during the interview that she struggled with constant suicidal thoughts, but the palace did not offer any help despite the severity of her condition. Furthermore, a royal family member expressed concerns about the potential darkness of baby Archie's skin color, which caused a stir. Harry also shared that Prince Charles refused to take his phone calls and cut him off from royal money. The couple also revealed that the palace cut them off from royal protection despite receiving death threats targeted at Meghan's biracial identity. Consequently, the interview resulted in heavy social media reactions, with some threatening to fight for the couple.
If you missed the two-hour-long special, you can still watch it for free on CBS.com and the CBS app, which is accessible on both iOS and Android. However, the interview will get removed from the CBS platforms in 30 days from its initial airing on March 7. If you don't have the time to watch the full interview, CBS released teaser clips before the broadcast for snippet viewing experiences.
The Monday after Meghan and Harry's two-hour special, Winfrey sat down with her friend Gayle King on CBS This Morning, and treated viewers to fresh insights and snippets from the interview that never made it to air.
Winfrey revealed that a key question she posed to her production team was "Why did they leave?" She dismissed the notion that the 94-year-old queen had been caught off guard, and affirmed that she was kept fully abreast of the couple's decision. In Winfrey's view, Meghan and Harry approached her because they wanted to set the record straight and correct the record on how they were treated after being maligned by the palace.
Winfrey also quashed rumors that the royal family members who raised concerns about Archie's skin color were the Queen and Prince Philip, though she did not reveal who did.
In another as-yet unseen portion of the CBS interview, Meghan opened up about her difficult relationship with her father, Thomas Markle, and half-sister Samantha. She recounted how tabloid reporters harassed her father and gifted him, even after Markle asked them to leave him alone, and admitted that her father had lied to her about his dealings with the press.
Regarding Samantha, Meghan clarified that she had little to no relationship with her growing up, had not seen her for almost two decades, and was not in contact with her.
Winfrey also observed that it was clear that discussing his tumultuous relationship with Prince Charles was painful for Harry, who had been toughly criticized in the media. Harry felt unsupported and endangered by the family's actions, and as a result, he and Meghan felt they had to step away from the royal family's official duties.
The couple now lives in California after spending some time in Canada, where they work on several entertainment projects. Winfrey, a celebrity in her own right, was the right person to interview them. Not only is she a well-known media personality in America, but she and Meghan and Harry are friendly, and she even attended their wedding in 2018.
Winfrey also gifted baby Archie with the book Duck! Rabbit! in a video that the couple posted to Instagram in May 2020 to celebrate his first birthday.
