Service dogs in Ontario do not require registration, just like in the US. This is required by the AODA and the Ontario Human Rights Code. Certificates or other forms of identification are not required for service animals. However, owners of service animals may be asked to show proof of their status. A simple letter or prescription from a doctor stating that the animal is required due to a medical condition.

The required paperwork must either:

How Do I Obtain an Assistance Dog for Mental Health in Ontario?

A psychiatric service dog can be acquired in a few different ways: through self-training, assisted-self-training, or acquisition from a for-profit or non-profit organization. The first step is to schedule an appointment with your doctor to obtain a letter of recommendation. You can also seek help from another qualified medical expert, as described above.
